Earth Retention

MSE Walls & Wire walls

MSE Walls

MSE (Mechanically Stabilized Earth) walls are walls with either steel or plastic reinforcement mechanically attached to a facing element. They can be used as retaining walls for bridge abutments, seawalls, and dikes. The stability of MSE walls comes from the interaction of the soil reinforcement with the backfill behind the facing element.

Wire Walls

Wire walls are a type of MSE wall. Plastic or steel reinforcements are attached to a wire wall face. Wire walls are commonly used in phase construction for bridge abutments. Permanent wire walls can be constructed with or without a precast fascia panel. These wire walls are commonly seen in areas where settlement is a factor.
