I-485 Express Lanes, Charlotte, NC

Client: NC Department of Transportation, General Contractor is Blythe Construction

Project: Tricor Construction was asked to help create 567,000 sf of engineered sound walls along the new I-485 expressway. For this design build project, Tricor worked in partnership with Blythe Construction to provide a sound mitigation solution along I-485 for NCDOT.

This project, using three Tricor crews, required post foundation every 15 feet. Due to Charlotte’s native soil, we had to use large drills and special foundation tooling.

Challenges: Along the way we overcame several hurdles, including working through a heavy schedule, COVID, inflation, and keeping our team safe as they work in proximity to live traffic.

Result: This is one of the first installations in the southeast of Durisol’s proprietary sound walls. Durisol uses an engineered blend of softwood shavings and cement for maximum durability and noise absorption.

We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this exciting build for NCDOT that represents growth and development along the I-485 corridor.
